1. Babe’s 60, At 85

At the first Major League game I ever attended, 35 years ago this Wednesday, my father bought me a Yankees Yearbook. The 1977 yearbook had an insert celebrating the 50th anniversary of the famed 1927 team.  It was my first real introduction to baseball history, and the sepia photos and player descriptions brought that era alive.  Only a few players remained alive from that team (I remember “Jumpin” Joe Dugan and Mark Koenig and a couple of others).

Babe Ruth was of course the star of stars on that team, one of a series of 1920’s Yankees squads dubbed “Murderer’s Row.”

Gallagher’s Steak House is bringing back a bit of that 1927 magic, celebrating The Babe’s 60-homer feat that year as well as the opening of the classic N.Y. eatery with the Babe Ruth Look-Alike Contest on Sept. 24.

A galaxy of to-be-announced prizes will be awarded to the winner, as selected by a blue ribbon panel. To enter, contact: johnnycigarpr@aol.com or call 914-260-7436, and please attach a photo. Entries must be submitted no later than Sept. 17.
